70 million to east Asia

NHS in Crisis, Nation in Debt… So Why is Labour Giving £70 Million to Super-Rich Singapore?

While Britain’s public services crumble and hard-working families face a cost-of-living crisis, the new Labour government has decided its first priority is to send a staggering £70 million of your money to Singapore—one of the wealthiest nations on Earth.

In a move that reeks of ideological vanity and staggering incompetence, Foreign Secretary David Lammy has proudly announced a £70 million pledge to Singapore’s green energy project. You read that correctly. As our NHS waiting lists grow longer and our national debt spirals, Labour’s grand plan involves shipping taxpayer cash to a country with a GDP per capita in the global top three and financial reserves that dwarf our own.

This isn’t just poor judgement; it’s a slap in the face to every Briton struggling to make ends meet.

Let’s be clear about the facts. The pledge, confirmed by both the UK’s Foreign Office and the Monetary Authority of Singapore, will see £70 million funnelled into a programme called the ‘Financing Asia’s Transition Partnership’ (FAST-P). Singapore, a titan of global finance, is apparently in desperate need of a handout from beleaguered British taxpayers to fund its own ‘Green Plan 2030’.

The irony is sickening. A 2024 report from the Medic Portal highlighted how our own NHS demand is critically outpacing resources. Our brave doctors and nurses are at breaking point, yet Labour’s new “securonomics” policy apparently means securing the climate credentials of a foreign economic powerhouse before securing the health of our own citizens.

The government’s official line is that this is a “strategic investment” to support climate action across Southeast Asia. They want you to believe this is about global leadership. But as a 2023 World Bank study suggested, aid to already wealthy nations yields diminishing returns. Why would the UK taxpayer be forced to bankroll a project managed by a nation more than capable of funding it ten times over? This isn’t aid; it’s a transfer of wealth from the struggling to the super-rich, all under the guise of a climate crusade.

This decision is a textbook example of the disconnect between the Westminster elite and the people they are supposed to serve. While you are told to tighten your belt, Labour is writing blank cheques for ideological pet projects abroad. The 2024 IMF analysis, which warned of significant economic risks for the UK due to fiscal imbalances, seems to have been tossed in the bin by Mr. Lammy and his colleagues.

This £70 million could have been used to fund thousands of new nurses, repair our crumbling roads, or ease the tax burden on British families. Instead, it’s funding the green ambitions of a nation that doesn’t need it, from a nation that desperately needs to fix its own house first.

This is not a mandate for global charity. It is a mandate for national renewal. Labour’s first major act on the world stage is a betrayal of that trust. It is a clear signal that their priorities lie not with the people of Britain, but with the Davos-set and their out-of-touch globalist agenda. At Mandate Shift, we believe charity begins at home. It’s a shame our new government doesn’t agree.
